Team Bonding
Part 5
The other four were the men whom were in the other cages in the kennel area. They were given instructions to frolic around. McIntosh was placed in his restraints in the middle of the room. A football helmet is put on his head; a mouth guard in his mouth, a carbine is connected to the face mask pulling his head towards his knees. Off to one end of the room is a goal net set up. Wires are hanging down in front; most did not carry a current (2/3rd) the others carry 10,000 volt current. The men in the dog hoods knew that McIntosh was their ball and enjoyed time and time again sending him through the curtain of wires.
The food served was well prepared, foods that one can make at the station for lunch or dinner. Well balanced to give one energy and very lean.
Captain Olson signals me to outside the great hall. “Son,” he said “you look concerned, is it over McIntosh?”
“Sir” I reply “As a member of the same team yes.”
“I can tell you” Captain Olson says, “during the pole sprints, McIntosh informed Captain Smyth he was offered a Captain’s job in another State far from here. We on purpose held him from the last round.”
I pause a moment “Sir” I respond “with that news, please place me in the entertainment arena with McIntosh; he is still my firefighter brother.”
Surprised Captain Olson says “I can do that, but I do not have any more dog hoods, you’ll have to be another ball.”
I realize what I’m putting myself into and say “OK”.
Captain Olson informs Captain Smyth the offer I made and he tells my other team members. I am taken to a room; I undress and put on a jock strap. My handlers carefully bandage over my new tattoos. I am placed in the same restraints as McIntosh; a mouth guard is places in my mouth then a black spandex hood over my head. “This is the face these men will only see of the wardens’ son,” one of my handlers tells me, “other than us, the warden, your captain, and your team knows your true identity.” The football helmet is placed on my head and secured to the restraints.
Captain Olson announces “The warden informs me that to spice up the entertainment he has sent his own son in as a second ball for the dogs to play with.
I am rolled out and placed next to McIntosh; I could see what pain he was in; anger filled his face once he knew I was the wardens’ son, but did not know I am Davis.
The dogs after getting some water came over to me; smelled me. One lifted his leg as if to pee on me, but I hear an electric shock administered and he rolls over in pain and peeing upon himself. It seems like an hour being sent through the electric curtain over and over again. McIntosh did not get played with once I was in the arena. I finally was released from the ball restraints I was given a black spandex cat suit. The helmet was removed but I kept the hood on.
A voice comes over the PA system “Son take the dog’s to the kennel”.
I nod a yes attaching leads to the four’s collars. My handlers escort me out of the great room along with McIntosh. I place the four into their cages. A medic is given McIntosh an exam treating the shock bites. I go off to an adjoining room and remove my cat suit, hood and mouth piece, Captain Olson enters as the medic does “Son” he says “when we have done dog soccer before the dogs usually have had to be shocked themselves to do what these dogs did tonight.” My back was marked up as was my ass from all the shocks I received; I was given back my station uniform I changed into it and walked out over to McIntosh.
“Are you OK Bart?” I ask.
“Yes Davis.” He replies.
I return to the cell block to find my brothers there applauding me. I assure them Bart is OK. I lift my shirt and show my stripes. Captain Smyth enters and informs us that Bart was just sent home, he was shipping off to his new job tomorrow morning. He also informed me to tell you all even you Davis it is a good feeling to have served with you all. “Get some rest” he orders us “we head back to our station tomorrow and we are back on duty the day after.”
The pain I took was fresh in my mind “Dawg” I say to myself out loud “Don’t ever do that again.”
Joe and Jack were not yet asleep, Joe says “Davis, who is Dawg?”
Surprised to hear they were still awake I confess “earlier today I learned what my legal first name is. My birth mother named me Dawg. May I request although I’m glad to know my first name, I still would want to be called Davis.”
The Jones boys agree and we all fall asleep.
The next morning we get dressed into our station uniform. Captain Olson enters with his hood on that covers his face. “Men” he says “since you know who my son is and not to arouse suspicion I have a man standing in as my son at inspection before every one leaves today.”
A man my height and built enters the room in the same cat suit I had on the night before, his face was not covered yet with the spandex hood, he comes over and shakes my hand then lowers the spandex hood over his face.
We go down to the great room and mingle with the others who did time this past week in the compound. The men who were the dogs were in their appropriate station uniforms. They were talking amongst themselves “The warden’s son really has balls to join in last night.” One said. Another one said “Yes, but I feel I was punished for no apparent reason, don’t dogs pee all over the place.” I chime in “they do, but not on their toys. The name is Davis, good to meet you men.”
Captain Olson / The Warden and the actor playing me his son walk in, everyone gets down on one knee, including me in their presents. They come over to the group that were the dogs, the man who was punished last night gets up without permission, he is about to punch the warden’s son, a taser appears and is discharged. He drops in pain, and rides the taser for the five second cycle. Order is restored. “I’m glad you all had a good time here on retreat from the duties you all have with your respective firehouses,” Captain Olson announces “you were the first team to meet my son and from time to time if you return to this establishment you will see more of him. You all are dismissed to return to your home stations.”
Applause breaks out, the Jones boys, Michaels, and Captain Smyth comes over to me.
“Davis” Captain Smyth says “the van is loaded up and since you have replaced Mac you get to drive home.”
I did not know where the compound/castle was I asked for directions.
My team members’ chuckle, “if you don’t recognize where you are as we leave” Captain Smyth says “you will not be my driver of engine 1.” This was the post on Team D Bart McIntosh had.
We load the van, to my surprise it is our departments. As we were loading our turnout gear I notice an embroidered (small) word on the right shoulder “tag”. It is located where the micro chip is.
The van is loaded, and I’m in the driver’s seat. Captain Olson comes over and says “Son your always welcome back.” The overhead door opens, there across the street is the fire station my foster father is Chief, the station I grew up in and I learned is the station where Captain Olson is a Captain. I always was fascinated in the warehouse across from the old station.
“Sir” I reply “every chance I can.” As I pull out I see my foster father, he waves, and I salute him and then wave.
“Davis” Will Smyth announces “I’ve told our Chief that I’ve assigned you to take him to the annual Chief’s retreat next week, it’s held at the compound."
